Over 200 participants in this year's Annual Food Safety Refresher training in Yuma

By: Yuma ESS

This year's Annual Food Safety Refresher training course was attended by over 200 agricultural supervisors, crew forepersons, growers, food safety professionals and other support staff.

This training put on by the Yuma Safe Produce Council (YSPC) meets the requirements for annual food safety training under Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) regulations. Section 112.22 of these regulations require training for farm personnel, and must occur before these employees begin duties that involve handling FSMA covered produce or food contact surfaces, regardless of when they are hired; periodically thereafter, at least once annually; and as necessary and appropriate in light of observations or information indicating that personnel are not meeting standards established by FDA in the Produce Safety Rule.

The Yuma Safe Produce Council is a non-profit organization that helps growers, shippers and harvesters become and remain in compliance with FSMA regulations and LGMA metrics with the ultimate mission of ensuring only safe to eat produce is grown and delivered to consumers.
